Policy and Regulation Forum for Pacific (PRFP)
Introduction
The Policy and Regulation Forum for Pacific (PRFP), initiated in 2009, has become one of the premium forums for regulators and policy makers of the Pacific subregion. The forum is a key subregional activity of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity attracting high-level participants from the Ministries and Regulatory Authorities from the Pacific each year. It is an excellent platform which provides an opportunity for the top policy makers and regulators to share information, best practices and experiences for the common benefit of the members. Issues relating to policy and regulations for telecommunication and ICT which are of common interest to the telecommunication administrations in the Pacific region were discussed and coordinated at the PRFP. These issues included international connectivity, Capacity Building, Broadband and Application, Policy and Regulation on Internet, Radio Spectrum Consideration, Cybersecurity, and Consumer Protection. The PRFP has also facilitated intra regional collaboration on policy and regulatory issues.
At the present, the membership of PRFP consists of the following sixteen countries and territories in the Pacific region which are Australia, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Cook Islands, and Niue.
Structure
PRFP has annual meetings. The forum is headed by a Chair and two Vice-Chairs. Chair and Vice-Chairs are nominated by the Forum from PRFP Members with the term of two years that is extendable once.
