APT Policy and Regulatory Forum (PRF)

The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) organized the APT Policy and Regulatory Forum from 13 to 15 May 2009 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region, People’s Republic of China. The meeting is hosted by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA), Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, People’s Republic of China.
The objectives of the Forum were to make an opportunity for dialogue and sharing of experiences on policy and regulation, to get an update of the latest emerging issues, to bring out the key issues of concern and highlight the challenges concerning policy and regulation and prepare contributions to other global fora as appropriate. The Forum was an annual event addressing key regulatory and policy issues of interest and concern to the Asia Pacific region. The Forum provided APT members with an update of regulatory information and techniques, focusing on a range of topics that have been identified. These topics include; Regulatory Implications on ICT Infrastructure Development, Regulation in the Convergence World, IP Based Licensing, Destructive Elements of Communications: Security and Spam issues, Regulators Role in Facilitating Consumer Interest in ICT, E-commerce & E-banking, and Review of the key issues from the WTSA-08. Apart from these proposed topics, there will be special sessions for reviewing the Working Method of the PRF and a preliminary discussion on the Ministerial Meeting.
