1st APT Preparatory Meeting for ITU Plenipotentiary Conference and WTDC (PP-10 and WTDC-10)

The APT First Preparatory Meetings for the ITU World Telecom Development Conference (WTDC-10) and Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-10) were held on May 8, 2009 at Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. The meetings were held back to back with the ITU Regional Preparatory Meeting (RPM) for the WTDC-10 which was held from 5 to 7 May 2009.

The APT preparatory meetings are designed to consolidate the regional view on common issues that members consider to be voiced at the WTDC-10 and PP-10 as common input from the Asia Pacific region. These meetings will be a common platform for the discussion and exchange of views among various interested stakeholders and experts on the issues pertaining to the agenda of the said conferences. The meetings will attempt to start the process for developing common proposals to the WTDC-10 and PP-10.
The APT First Preparatory meetings were organized by APT and hosted by the Ministry of Energy, Water and Communication of the Government of Malaysia.

The key objectives of the first meetings included the following:

• To identify key areas of interest and common issues that needs to be discussed and proposed to the ITU WTDC-10 and PP-10.
• Agree on a working structure, work plan and expected draft results for the second preparatory meeting.
• Nominate office bearers for working/correspondence groups to coordinate and formulate common proposals to the said conferences.
