Asia Pacific Ministerial Meeting on Strengthening Regional collaboration towards Broadband Economy

APT organized the Asia Pacific Ministerial Meeting on strengthening regional collaboration towards Broadband Economy from 12-13 November 2009 at Bali, Indonesia. The meeting was hosted by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MICT) of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.
The meeting was organized to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the APT, a milestone event in its services to the Region on ICT Development. The meeting will provide opportunity to assess the achievements of the APT in its 30 years of service and recognize its strengths and weaknesses and the crucial role APT plays in cooperation and development of ICT in the region. It was also the opportunity for the Ministers to set out a fresh agenda and targets for APT for its future work plan.
The meeting deliberated on issues that require high level commitment in the region for ICT development and working towards a Broadband Economy. Special emphasis will be given to the following topics.
- Achievements in the APT’s 30 years of Service
- Connecting all: facilitating the digital inclusion
- Creating a safer society: the regional effort to improve cyber security and protecting children in cyberspace
- Facilitating the convergence: the technologies and content for the Broadband economy
- Business Dialogue: challenges and opportunities of the Broadband Economy
The Ministers adopted the Bali Statement and Plan of Action that will further strengthen the regional collaboration to improve ICT and working towards a broadband economy in the region. The plan of action will become the focus of APT’s work plan in the coming years.
