The Eight SATRC Meeting

The Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) organized the Eighth South Asian Telecommunications Regulators? Council (SATRC) Meeting and Sub-regional Meeting on Improving Network Connectivity from 22 to 25 August, 2006 at Hotel River-View in Thimphu, Bhutan. The meeting on Improving Network Connectivity was held on Tuesday 22 August, 2006 prior to the 8th SATRC meeting. The meetings was hosted by the Bhutan Information, Communications and Media Authority, Ministry of Information & Communications (MoIC), Royal Government of Bhutan.
The main objectives of the eighth SATRC meeting were to;
- Convene a meeting of SATRC to address sub-regional regulatory issues in a more exclusive and focused manner.
- Discuss the implementation procedures of the SATRC Action Plan and its proposed projects.
- Assist in information dissemination, information exchange and sub regional harmonization on regulatory issues in the region.
- Facilitate and accelerate the work of the SATRC Working Groups on key regulatory issues and also identify new emerging issues which could be taken up by the Groups.
The Eighth SATRC meeting focused mainly on Industry-Regulator Cooperation, Update of the SATRC Activities, Regulators? role in improving access in SATRC Members countries, Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) for Telecom Equipment and Presentation of SATRC Working Group and Project Reports. The meeting will also draw up work plans for the following year.
