Second Preparatory Meeting for ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2006

The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) organized a Second APT Preparatory Meeting for PP-06 from 4 to 5 April, 2006 at the Miracle Grand Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting was supported by special funds from Australia and Japan.
The aim of the meeting was to identify the key issues of interest to APT members for PP-06 and develop preliminary APT Common Proposals.
The ITU Plenipotentiary Conference is the top policy-making body of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the next conference is scheduled to take place in October 2006 (PP-06). The First APT Preparatory Meeting which was held on 18th June, 2005 in Singapore was successful in establishing the five Correspondence Groups(CGs), Working Procedures and Time Table towards the preparation for PP-06. Since the first preparatory meeting we have received contributions from the CGs including related Issues papers.
The second preparatory meeting discussed the Issues papers developed by the CGs, further develop of the preliminary APT Common Proposals and identify areas of agreement on changes to Constitution (CS)/Convention (CV). The meeting will also help in identifying new areas of consideration and accelerate the preparations towards the PP-06 conference.
