The 36th Meeting of the APT Wireless Group (AWG-36): 6 - 10 April 2026, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam
The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) successfully convened the 36th Meeting of the APT Wireless Group (AWG-36) from 6 to 10 April 2026 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, with 336 participants from APT Members, Associate Members, Affiliate Members, and International Organizations. The meeting was hosted by the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI).
Chaired by Dr. Daejung Kim, AWG-36 was held over five days, featuring four parallel sessions and more than 50 meetings across Plenary, Working Groups, Sub-Working Groups, Task Groups, and the AFIS Ad-Hoc Group. The meeting reviewed progress on ongoing work items, considered new proposals, and the two workshops on IMT-2030/6G and emerging satellite technologies were also conducted during this meeting.
AWG-36 considered 80 input contributions and 14 information documents, and produced a range of key outputs including:
· APT Report on millimeter wave radar/sensor technologies for ITS in Asia Pacific region countries · APT Report on usage of cooperative vehicle-infrastructure ITS · APT Report on Wireless Power Transmission for moving machines · APT Report on air-to-ground communication system based on IMT technologies in the Asia Pacific region · Revised APT Report on mitigation measures to improve sharing and compatibility between 4G-LTE and 5G-NR systems and other systems operating in portions of 3300 – 4200 MHz · Revised APT Report on relevant information for considerations on the possible implementation of IMT in the frequency band 1 427–1 518 MHz · Revised APT Report on trends and spectrum developments for IMT usage in 2025-2030 in Asia-Pacific region · Revised APT Report on information of mobile operators’ frequencies, technologies and license durations in Asia Pacific countries · Revised APT Report on implementing Public Safety LTE (PS-LTE) mobile broadband capability in Asia-Pacific region · Revised APT Report on WAS/RLAN technology development and implementation aspects · Questionnaire on potential use cases and technologies of High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) for IMT-2030/6G · Questionnaire on spectrum usage for utility radiocommunication systems in Asia Pacific countries · Questionnaire on trends and technical requirements for modern satellite applications · Questionnaire on current and future usage of unmanned aircraft systems in Asia-Pacific region
AWG-36 elected Mr. Wang Hu (People’s Republic of China) and Mr. Yasuhiro Kato (Japan) as Vice-Chairs of AWG, while Mr. Bharat Bhatia (Republic of India) was appointed as Special Advisor to AWG. The meeting also appointed the Chairs of Working Groups of AWG as follows:

The next meeting, AWG-37, is scheduled to be held from 7 to 11 September 2026 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The 38th APT Standardization Program Forum (ASTAP-38): 20 - 24 April 2026, Bangkok, Thailand
The 38th APT Standardization Program Forum (ASTAP-38) was held from 20 to 24 April 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, with 148 participants from 18 APT Members, 20 Affiliate Members, and 1 International Organization.
An Industry Workshop on AI and Emerging Technologies was held on 20 April 2026 featured 17 presentations covering Future AI, AI Policies, AI Standardization Strategy of SDOs, and Emerging Technologies in the Industry.
ASTAP-38 revised the Work Plans of its three Working Groups, 4 Terms of Reference for its Expert Groups, and approved 1 Liaison Statement to ITU and 1 Liaison Statement to AWG, 3 Questionnaires, and 3 APT Reports/Guidelines.
ASTAP-38 elected Dr. Hideyuki Iwata (Japan) as a new Chair and Dr. Kim Phirun (Cambodia), Mr. Cheng Li (People’s Republic of China), Dr. Seungyun Lee (Republic of Korea) and Mr. Dao Ngoc Tuyen (Viet Nam) as new Vice-Chairs of ASTAP for 3-year term.
ASTAP-38 also appointed new Chairs and Vice-Chairs of its three Working Groups for 3-year term.

The Meeting of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators’ Council Working Group on Spectrum 20 - 21 May 2026, Thimphu, Bhutan
The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) will organize the Meeting of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators’ Council (SATRC) Working Group on Spectrum from 20 to 21 May 2026 in Thimphu, Kingdom of Bhutan. The meeting will be hosted by the Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority (BICMA) as a physical meeting with remote participation modality.
This meeting forms part of the activities of SATRC Action Plan Phase X which was adopted by the 26th Meeting of the SATRC (SATRC-26) held from 5 to 7 November 2025 in Islamabad, Pakistan. The objective of the meeting is to conduct the activities of the Working Group on Spectrum in line with the Work Items mandated by the Council. This meeting is expected to discuss and finalize the draft Questionnaires and Work Plan of the Work Items assigned to the Working Group.

The 4th Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (APT PP26-4) 15 - 19 June 2026, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) will organize the 4th Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (APT PP26-4) from 15 to 19 June 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia via physical meeting with remote participation modality. The Meeting will be hosted by the Ministry of Communications of Malaysia.
The APT PP26-4 is expected to conduct the following activities:
· To consider the Input contributions of the APT members; · To consider the Issue Papers prepared by the Working Groups of APT PP-26; · To review the outcomes of the Council, Working Groups and Expert Groups; · To review the outcomes of the preparatory process of ITU and other regional organizations for PP-26; · To develop the Preliminary APT Common Proposals, if any; · To develop the APT views, if any; and · To organize special sessions for the candidates running for the elected official positions of the ITU.

The Meeting of the SATRC Working Group on Policy, Regulation and Services 1 - 2 July 2026, Islamabad, Pakistan
The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) will organize the Meeting of the SATRC Working Group on Policy, Regulation and Services from 1 to 2 July 2026 in Islamabad, Pakistan, via physical attendance with remote participation modality. The meeting will be hosted by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The Meeting of SATRC Working Group on Policy, Regulation and Services is a part of the activities of SATRC Action Plan Phase X (SAP-X) which was adopted by the 26th Meeting of SATRC (SATRC-26) held in 2025. It will be the first meeting of the Working Group under SATRC Action Plan Phase X and it is expected to discuss the Work Items assigned to the Working Group by the Council.

The 3rd Meeting of the APT Conference Preparatory Group for WRC-27 (APG27-3) 27 - 31 July 2026, Sapporo, Japan
The 3rd Meeting of the APT Conference Preparatory Group for WRC-27 (APG27-3) will be held from 27 to 31 July 2026 in Sapporo, Japan. The meeting will be organized by the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and hosted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan as a physical meeting with remote participation modality. Remote participation will be arranged through Zoom meeting platform.
APG27-3 will be preceded by the ‘Training Course on Preparing for International Conferences: APG/WRC’ which will be held physically from 22 to 24 July 2026 at the same venue. The training course aims to provide an opportunity for the young generation who are new to international conferences to understand the international decision-making process including how to make presentations and coordination. This year, the event will focus on understanding of the structure and the decision-making process of APG and WRC.
