Transfer of Office of the Secretary General of the APT

 

The ceremony for the transfer of office of the Secretary General of the APT was organized on 8 February 2021 at the APT Headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the ceremony was witnessed by a number of guests from the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), Thailand, and staff members of APT Secretariat. Ms. Kalaya Chinatiworn, Vice-President of the General Assembly of the APT, was invited as the Guest of Honour.

Ms. Areewan Haorangsi had successfully completed her term of office on 8 February 2021. Mr. Masanori Kondo, the new Secretary General, and Mr. Liu Ziping, the new Deputy Secretary General, have taken office from 9 February 2021 for a three-year term.

The 2nd Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for WTDC-21 (APT WTDC21-2)

24 - 26 February 2021, Virtual Meeting

 

APT WTDC21-2 was attended by 151 participants representing Members, Affiliate Members, International/Regional Organizations, and other organization. The meeting successfully fulfilled its objective to discuss issues for the WTDC-21 and identify priorities for Regional Initiatives, prepare APT inputs to RPM as an APT View, and to review the Work Plan for the Preparatory Group. Aside from the existing office bearers, the meeting appointed Ms. Gisa Fuatai Purcell (Samoa) as a Chairman of Working Group 2, and Mr. Bhavesh Trivedi (India) as a Vice-Chairman of Working Group 3.

 

In relation to the Regional Initiatives, the meeting considered the inputs put forward by the APT Member Administration; the strategic pillars (priority areas) for the APT for 2021-2023. The meeting concluded that the Regional Initiatives for Asia-Pacific 2018-21 needed to be updated to reflect recent developments in ICT and the needs of APT Member Administrations. The meeting adopted an APT view on Draft Regional Initiatives to be presented at RPM-ASP Meeting during 9 to 10 March 2021.

 

The meeting reviewed the Work Plan for the upcoming preparatory meetings in 2021. The 3rd meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for WTDC-21 (APT WTDC21-3) will be held from 6 to 11 May 2021 and the 4th meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for WTDC-21 (APT WTDC21-4) from 30 August to 3 September 2021.

The 27th Meeting of the APT Wireless Group (AWG-27)

22 - 30 March 2021, Virtual Meeting

 

The 27th Meeting of the APT Wireless Group (AWG-27) will be organized from 22 to 30 March 2021 as a virtual meeting.

 

The APT Wireless Group (AWG) covers various aspects of emerging wireless systems to meet the upcoming digital convergence era in the Asia-Pacific region. It also assists to provide cost effective radiocommunication solutions and to facilitate the transfer of technology and knowledge. At its 27th meeting, the AWG will report on the progress of its activities and discuss the relevant topics and issues further.

The 2nd Meeting of the APG for WRC-23 (APG23-2)

19 - 23 April 2021, Virtual Meeting

 

The 2nd Meeting of the APG for WRC-23 (APG23-2) will be held from 19 to 23 April 2021 as a virtual meeting. The objectives of the APG23-2 are as follows:

 

·         review of the working methods of APG for necessary amendments;

·         nomination for the Chairmen of Drafting Groups on individual WRC-23 agenda items;

·         consideration of the study progress in ITU-R Study Groups;

·         review of the preparation of ITU and other regional organizations for WRC-23; and

·         discussion and adoption of the APT Preliminary Views on WRC-23 agenda items and issues related to RA-23.
