In February 2020, no event under the APT
Work Programme was held. Due to the widespread of the COVID-19 (coronavirus
disease 2019) infection across countries, several APT members had raised their concerns
over the situation, and some governments had instructed their citizens to
avoid travelling abroad even to attend international events. Therefore, APT Secretariat in
consultation with the host countries of the events as well as the Chairman
and Vice-Chairmen of APT events, had decided to postpone APT meetings and
training courses scheduled to be held in February, March and April 2020. APT meetings that are postponed are as follows:
There
are two activities of the APT Secretariat in February 2020: celebration of
the Establishment Day of the APT on 25 February and Big Cleaning Day 2020 on
27 February. Attention for delegates attending APT
meetings in Thailand On 1
March 2020, Thailand announced that Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) was
listed as a dangerous communicable disease. The
announcement empowers Thai officials to require persons suspected of being
infected with COVID-19 to undergo treatment and put them in quarantine or in
control for observation at places specified, among other measures. On 6 March 2020, there was the
“Notification on the Territories outside the Kingdom of Thailand defined as
Disease Infected Zones of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Outbreak”.
Those territories included Republic of Korea, People’s Republic of China
(including Macao and Hong Kong), Italian Republic and Islamic Republic of
Iran. Therefore, travelers who departed
from Republic of Korea, People’s Republic of China (including Macau
and Hong Kong), Italy, and Iran are
required for self-quarantine for 14 days at designated areas or at residences.
Travelers
from areas with ongoing local transmission (e.g., Japan, Singapore,
Taiwan, Germany, France, etc.) are recommended
to implement, for 14 days, self-monitoring
at residences and check their body temperature. It is also recommended
to avoid visiting public or crowded places, not share personal stuff with
others and keep at least 1 meter away when making contact
with others. In this connection, delegates for APT
meetings who departed from those countries are required to arrive Thailand 14 days in advance for self-quarantine or self-
monitoring before attending the meeting. For those who decide not to physically
attend the meeting in Thailand, if the meeting and/or the chairman accepts remote participation, APT
Secretariat will do the best to provide the necessary environment for remote
participation. APT Secretariat will monitor the
announcement of the Thai Authorities concerned and will update the situation
on the APT website, with the hope that the situation would improve from May
2020. Establishment Day of the APT 25
