The 3rd Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for PP-22 (APT PP22-3) 9 - 12 May 2022, Tokyo, Japan (Hybrid Meeting)
The 3rd Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for PP-22 (APT PP22-3) was held in Tokyo Japan, in hybrid form from 9-12 May 2022. The meeting was hosted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), Japan, and attended by 239 participants from APT Members, Affiliate Member, International/Regional Organizations, and other organizations.
The meeting had received fourteen (14) input contributions and two (2) late contributions as information document from APT Members which were discussed during the meeting. The meeting approved the reports of Working Group meetings, other output documents and developed five (5) draft PACPs as follows: · (Draft) PACP - Modification to Res. 100: Role of the Secretary-General of ITU as depositary for memoranda of understanding · (Draft) PACP - Modification to Res. 140: ITU's role in implementing the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as in their follow-up and review processes · (Draft) PACP - Modification to Res. 154: Use of the six official languages of the Union on an equal footing · (Draft) PACP - Modification to Res. 182: The role of telecommunications/information and communication technologies in regard to climate change and the protection of the environment · (Draft) PACP - Modification to Res. 208: Appointment and maximum term of office for chairmen and vice-chairmen of Sector advisory groups, study groups and other groups
The 4th Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for PP-22 (APT PP22-4) will be held on 1-5 August 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand as a hybrid meeting.

Meeting of the SATRC Working Group on Policy, Regulation and Services 25 - 26 May 2022, Dhaka, Bangladesh
APT organized the Meeting of the SATRC Working Group on Policy, Regulation and Services from 25 to 26 May 2022 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The meeting was hosted by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), and attended by 36 delegates including the enlisted experts of this Working Group from 9 SATRC Members and 5 Affiliate Members of APT.
This meeting of SATRC Working Group on Policy, Regulation and Services is a part of the activities of SATRC Action Plan Phase VIII (SAP-VIII) which was adopted by the 22nd Meeting of SATRC (SATRC-22) held virtually in 2021. It was the first meeting of the Working Group under SATRC Action Plan Phase VIII and discussed the Work Items assigned to the Working Group by the Council.
SATRC WG PRS has been assigned the following work items for SAP-VIII: · Work Item 1: Development of enabling policy and regulatory environments, in the context of SATRC, to embrace the new ecosystem brought by 5G · Work Item 2: Telecom active infrastructure sharing · Work Item 3: Regulatory issues related to OTT services and applications
The meeting discussed the assigned Work Items in detail. The delegates from SATRC Members and the Affiliate Members also presented on the Work Items for better understanding on the Work Items.
The key outcomes of the meeting are as follows: · Appointment of the lead experts of the assigned Work Items. · Development of Work Plan of the SATRC WG PRS for SAP-VIII. · Development of Questionnaires on each Work Items to obtain the necessary information from the SATRC member countries.
Upon obtaining the necessary information from the SATRC Members, WG PRS will conduct monthly/bi-monthly e-Meetings to develop the draft SATRC Reports on the Work Items.
The next face-to-face Meeting of the WG PRS is scheduled to held on Q3, 2023 in Maldives.

APT Web Dialogue: EWAO Series “WiFi 6E Complementing 5G”, 2 June 2022
The APT Web Dialogue on EWAO (Expanding Wireless Access Opportunity) Series is a collaboration between APT and the Digital in collaboration with Dynamic Spectrum Alliance (DSA). This 2nd episode of the EWAO Series was attended by 77 participants from APT members and others. Mr. Masanori Kondo, Secretary General of APT, and Ms. Martha Suarez, President of DSA gave welcome remarks at the opening of the web dialogue.
The speakers, Mr. Rolf de Vegt, Vice President of Technical Standards, Connectivity Semiconductor, Qualcomm, and Mr. Alan Norman, Public Policy Director, Meta Platforms, explained how 5G mobile networks and Wi-Fi will work together to support a wide range of compelling new applications and services. Some examples were given an individual on the move might use very low power Wi-Fi 6E to connect an augmented reality or virtual reality headset to a 5G smartphone to access immersive entertainment, educational, e-Health and industrial applications, improving training, accelerating product design and enabling new business models. The web dialogue concluded with the Q&A session which was actively engaged by the participants.

The Meeting of the SATRC Working Group on Spectrum 21 - 23 June 2022, New Delhi, India
The Meeting of SATRC Working Group on Spectrum is part of the activities of SATRC Action Plan Phase VIII (SAP-VIII) which was adopted by the 22nd Meeting of SATRC (SATRC-22) held virtually in 2021. It will be the first meeting of the Working Group under SATRC Action Plan Phase VIII and it is expected to discuss the Work Items assigned to the Working group by the Council.

APT Web Dialogue: EWAO Series 23 June 2022, 10:00-11:30 am (Bangkok time)
For many countries, Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) will help enable unlicensed devices in the 6GHz band to operate outdoors as well as increase their indoor range while ensuring that existing services are protected from interference.
This third episode of the EWAO (Expanding Wireless Access Opportunity) Series will explain how the AFC system can enable Wi-Fi 6E Standard Power operation to coexist with incumbent services.

The 22nd APT Policy and Regulatory Forum (PRF-22) 19 - 21 July 2022, Bangkok, Thailand (Hybrid Meeting)
PRF-22 will continue to focus its work in line with the five Strategic Pillars of the Strategic Plan of the APT which serves as the guideline for APT’s activities for 2021-2023.
The PRF-22 will consist of special features as follows: · Special Ministerial Session: A session among Ministers and/or Vice Ministers to share insights, experiences, lessons learned, policies being implemented in their countries with regard to digital transformation and innovation strategies. · Regulators’ Roundtable: A roundtable among the Head of the Regulators to share their experiences and practices on regulatory issues and identify the challenges, opportunities and possible way forward towards the new concept of the regulatory framework i.e., 5th Generation (G5) of Regulation. · Business Dialogue: A session to provide a platform for industry representatives to discuss economic and financial approaches for sustainable 5G ecosystem. Another session will provide an opportunity to discuss the regulatory implications and impacts of emerging technologies on the economy and ICT landscape. |

APT PP22-4 will be hosted by the Office of the National Broadcasting Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), Thailand.

APT Members

The 4th Meeting of the APT Conference 15 - 20 August 2022, Bangkok, Thailand (Hybrid Meeting)
The objectives of the APG23-4 are to review the results of APG23-3 and Intercessional Working Party meetings; update APT preliminary views on WRC-23 Agenda Items based on input contributions from APT Members; consider the progress in ITU-R Study Groups in relation to WRC-23 Agenda items, and take necessary actions as appropriate; review the activities of other regional organizations, in particular their preliminary views/positions on WRC-23 with a view to fostering inter-regional cooperation; review issues related to RA-23 and develop APT preliminary views, if any; contribute, if possible and where necessary, to the activities of the APT Preparatory Group for PP-22 with respect to the issues relevant to the purview of the APG; and discuss APT preparations for the ITU Inter-regional Workshop on WRC-23 Preparations.

The 30th Meeting of APT Wireless Group (AWG-30) 5 - 9 September 2022, Bangkok, Thailand (Hybrid Meeting)
AWG
covers various aspects of emerging wireless systems to meet the
upcoming digital convergence era in the Asia-Pacific region. It also
assists to provide effective radiocommunication solutions and to
facilitate the transfer of technology and knowledge. In its 30th
meeting, the AWG will continue to study on the existing work items, report on
the progress of studies and discuss the relevant issues. |
