The 27th Meeting of the APT Wireless Group (AWG-27)

22 - 30 March 2021, Virtual/Online Meeting

 

The APT organized a virtual meeting for the 27th Meeting of APT Wireless Group (AWG-27) from 22 to 30 March 2021. AWG-27 was attended by 439 participants from APT Members, Associate Members, Affiliate Members, International Organizations, other organizations and APT Secretariat. 

During AWG-27, there were sessions of Working Groups, Sub-Working Groups and Task Groups to discuss the work progress on various work items. The work items are related to various work areas including spectrum arrangement and harmonization, spectrum monitoring, spectrum sharing studies, IMT, High Altitude Platform station (HAPS), fixed wireless systems, Internet of Things (IoT), intelligent transport system, wireless power transmission, modern satellite applications, aeronautical and maritime, PPDR and railway radiocommunication. During the meeting, an Ad-hoc Group was formed to discuss “AWG Restructuring” and “Focus of AWG Work”.

AWG-27 considered 99 contributions and developed a number of outcomes. Among those, establishment of the Correspondence Group on Restructuring, draft APT Recommendation on Licensed Shared Access (LSA), new APT Reports on Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) for the Internet of Things based on non-cellular technologies, and railway radiocommunication system for passengers’ access to information and internet services in some APT countries, revision of APT Report on information of mobile operator's frequencies, technologies and license durations in Asia Pacific countries, 2 Questionnaires, 4 Liaison Statements to ITU-R, 3GPP RAN, 3GPP RAN4, ETSI ATTM TM4 and ISG mWT are significant.

The next meeting of the AWG (AWG-28) will be held in Q3 of 2021.

The 2nd Meeting of the APG for WRC-23 (APG23-2)

19 - 23 April 2021, Virtual Meeting

 

The 2nd Meeting of the APG for WRC-23 (APG23-2) will be held from 19 to 23 April 2021 as a virtual meeting. The objectives of the APG23-2 are as follows:

·         review of the working methods of APG for necessary amendments;

·         nomination for the Chairmen of Drafting Groups on individual WRC-23 agenda items;

·         consideration of the study progress in ITU-R Study Groups;

·         review of the preparation of ITU and other regional organizations for WRC-23; and

·         discussion and adoption of the APT Preliminary Views on WRC-23 agenda items and issues related to RA-23.

The 3rd Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for WTDC-21 (APT WTDC21-3)

6 - 11 May 2021, Virtual Meeting

 

APT will organize the APT WTDC21-3 from 6 to 11 May 2021 for 4 working days as a virtual/online meeting.

·         consider the input contributions from APT members;

·         review outcomes of RPM-ASP;

·         review outcomes of the views of other regional organizations;

·         develop Preliminary APT Common Proposal for WTDC-21; and

·         provide input to Telecommunication Development Advisory Group (TDAG) Meeting, as appropriate

APT Web Dialogue “Webminar on 5G and IoT: Applications and Policy Solutions”

17 May 2021, Online Event

 

In order to adequately respond to the rapidly changing ICT environment and the increasing demands for learning new services, technologies and business trends, APT has initiated “APT Web Dialogue” with the objective to provide opportunities to learn any topics of APT members’ interest that could facilitate their professional works and supplement the existing APT Work Programmes.

 

Under this initiative, APT plans to invite eminent speakers and/or panelists in the fields including academia, policy, technology, and industry (“APT&I”). The participants can learn insights of academic analysis, exchange policy and regulatory views, deepen technology understanding, and widen business perspectives.

 

The first APT Web Dialogue (Webminar) on the topic “5G and IoT: Applications and Policy Solutions” (under “Technology” category of the APT Web Dialogue) will be launched on 17 May 2021. The event is a collaboration with the Asia Institute of Technology (AIT), an eminent international postgraduate institution based in Bangkok. The objective is to deliver technology aspect of 5G and IoT and development of relevant applications for policy solutions. The audiences will learn what services 5G and IoT can provide, available technology and applications, and understand commercial opportunities.

The 33rd APT Standardization Program Forum (ASTAP-33)

7 - 15 June 2021, Virtual Meeting

 

APT will organize the 33rd APT Standardization Program Forum (ASTAP-33) from 7 to 15 June 2021, virtually.

 

The objective of ASTAP is to promote, coordinate and harmonize telecommunication standardization activities across the Asia-Pacific region through regional cooperation. It is expected that participants strengthen their expertise on standardization and contribute to expand the scope of standardization activities through practical solutions on the ICT issues in this region. In addition to organizing one-day Industry Workshop, ASPTA-33 will continue to discuss on members’ response on questionnaires on “Requirement on ICT Standardization” and ASTAP Work Plan during this meeting.
