SATRC Workshop on
Recent Trends and Technologies (5G and IoT)
7 - 9 May 2018, Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran
The SATRC Workshop on Recent
Trends and Technology (5G and IoT) was held from 7 to 9 May 2018 in Tehran,
Islamic Republic of Iran. The workshop was hosted by Communications
Regulatory Authority (CRA), Islamic Republic of Iran.
The workshop was attended by 91
participants from APT Members, Affiliate Members, and other organizations. H.E.
Mr. Hossein Fallah Joshaghani, Deputy Minister and President of
Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), Ministry of Information and
Communications Technology of Islamic Republic of Iran, presided over the
opening ceremony.
The workshop was held as part
of implementation of SATRC Action Plan Phase VI. The emphasis of the
Workshop was on 5G and Internet of Things (IoT). The objective of the
workshop was to provide an in-depth analysis on
various aspects on 5G and IoT including technical detail, policy and
regulatory aspects, spectrum management and others.
The three-day workshop
discussed various topics such as Recent Trends and Technologies in ICT/
Telecommunications, Technical Overview of 5G Technology, Spectrum Strategy
for 5G, 5G Application and service aspects, Regulatory aspects of 5G,
Overview of Key IoT Technologies as well as creating an IOT roadmap for the
future, and Policy and regulatory aspects of IoT.
The next SATRC Workshop on
Policy, Regulation and Services will be held from 3 to 5 July 2018 in
Kathmandu, Nepal.

30th APT
Standardization Program Forum (ASTAP-30)
21 - 25 May 2018, Bangkok, Thailand
The 30th APT Standardization
Program Forum (ASTAP-30) was held from 21 to 25 May 2018 in Bangkok,
Thailand. A total of 121 participants from APT Members, Affiliate Members
and other organizations attended the forum.
ASTAP-30 started with a one-day
Industry Workshop on Internet of Things which focused on new and emerging
IoT technologies, application and services.
ASTAP-30 received 92 input
contributions and information documents. The meeting produced a total of 26
Output Documents which include Advisory Board Report, Report of Ad-hoc
group on Industry Workshop, Reports of 3 Working Groups, Revised Work Plans
of 3 Working Groups, a revised ToRs of Expert Group, 5 Liaison Statements
to ITU-T Study Group and ISO, 5 new APT Report, 4 Questionnaires, and 1
draft Recommendation on Standard Specification of Information and
Communication System using Vehicle during Disaster. ASTAP-30 also revised
the ASTAP Working Methods to include the terms on Steering Committee and
Work Plan.

15th APT
Telecommunication/ICT Development Forum (ADF-15)
11 - 14 June 2018, Colombo, Sri Lanka
APT will organize the 15th APT
Telecommunication/ICT Development Forum (ADF-15) from 11 to 13 June 2018 in
Colombo, Sri Lanka. The event will be hosted by the Telecommunications
Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL). In addition, the Forum will be
followed by a one-day Joint APT-NIA Workshop on “ICT Broadband
Connectivity” on 14 June 2018 hosted by National Information Society Agency
(NIA), Republic of Korea.
The objectives of ADF-15 are:
•
To address issues in increasing access to broadband
connectivity with an emphasis on unserved and underserved populations;
•
To address issues in promoting conducive environments
for innovation and value creation in ICT;
•
To address issues in enhancing the use of ICT as an
enabler for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals 2030;
•
To report outcomes and achievement of APT projects;
•
To address challenges related to disaster preparedness,
risk reduction and mitigation as implemented by APT projects;
•
To discuss issues relevant for the sustainability of
the funded projects
•
To bring the focus of top policy makers, regulators and
industry representatives of ICT sector in the Pacific countries towards the
new Strategic Plan of the APT for 2018-2020.

3rd Meeting of the
APT Preparatory Group for PP-18 (APT PP18-3)
18 - 21 June 2018, Melbourne, Australia
AP) will organize the 3rd
Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for PP-18 (APT PP18-3) from 18 to 21
June 2018 in Melbourne, Australia. The meeting will be hosted by the
Department of Communications and the Arts (DoCA), Government of Australia.
APT PP18-3 will discuss the
issues of interest to the region for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference
2018 (PP-18) and provide input to 2018 Session of the Council. APT PP18-3
is expected to conduct the following activities:

To review outcomes of Council 2018;
•
To consider the revised Issue Papers from the Working
Groups of APT PP-18;
•
To consider the input contributions from APT Members;
•
To review outcomes of the preparatory process of other
regional organizations;
•
To develop Preliminary APT Common Proposals for PP-18,
if any.

Meeting of the SATRC
Working Group on Spectrum for Action Plan Phase VI
25 - 26 June 2018, Colombo, Sri Lanka
APT will organize the Meeting
of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators’ Council (SATRC) Working
Group on Spectrum for Action Plan Phase VI from 25 to 26 June 2018 in
Colombo, Sri Lanka. The meeting will be hosted by the Telecommunication
Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL).
This meeting is a part of the
activities of SATRC Action Plan Phase VI which was adopted by the 17th
Meeting of the SATRC (SATRC-17) held in October 2016 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The objective of the meeting is to conduct the Working Group activities on
the work items assigned by the Council. This meeting will be the final
meeting of the Working Group under SATRC Action Plan Phase VI and is
expected to discuss the draft outcomes of the work items assigned to the
Working Group.

Telecommunication Regulators’ Council (SATRC) Workshop on Policy,
Regulation and Services
3 - 5 July 2018, Kathmandu, Nepal
APT will organize the South
Asian Telecommunication Regulators’ Council (SATRC) Workshop on Policy,
Regulation and Services from 3 to 5 July 2018 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The
workshop will be hosted by the Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA),
Nepal. The workshop will be supported by Extra Budgetary Contribution (EBC)
by the Government of Japan.
The SATRC Workshop on Policy,
Regulation and Services is a part of the implementation of SATRC Action
Plan Phase VI which was adopted at the 17th SATRC meeting held in 2016 in
Dhaka, Bangladesh. The objective of the workshop is to give an in-depth
analysis on work items and better understanding in the policy, regulation
and services related issues associated with those work items. The workshop
is planned for high and mid-level officers of the SATRC Members. It will
provide an opportunity for the SATRC Members to share their experiences and
future plan with experts and industries.

5th Meeting of
Working Group of Management Committee on APT Legal Instruments (WGMC-5)
24 - 26 July 2018, Bangkok, Thailand
APT will organize the 5th
Meeting of Working Group of Management Committee on APT Legal Instruments
(WGMC-5) from 24 to 26 July 2018 at the APT Headquarters in Bangkok,
Thailand.
WGMC-5 will undertake a
holistic review on the draft revised Affiliate Membership Guidelines,
discuss the draft Human Resource Management Plan, and review other existing
legal instruments of the APT as instructed by the 41st Session of the
Management Committee of the APT (MC-41) held in November 2017. WGMC-5 will
also discuss Guidelines on Representation of the APT in Other Regions'
Meetings as well as review the revised Guideline for Awarding Fellowships
to the APT Event/Activity in Conjunction with the Management Committee.

18th APT Policy and
Regulatory Forum (PRF-18)
8 - 10 August 2018, Dhaka, Bangladesh
APT will organize the 18th APT
Policy and Regulatory Forum (PRF-18) from 8 to 10 August 2018 in Dhaka,
Bangladesh. The forum will be hosted by the Bangladesh Telecommunication
Regulatory Commission (BTRC), Bangladesh. PRF-18 will be preceded by the
ITU-BTRC Asia-Pacific Regulators Roundtable held from 6 to 7 August 2018 by
the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Bangladesh
Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) at the same venue.
The APT Policy and Regulatory
Forum (PRF) provides a platform where high-level policy makers and
regulators meet to discuss telecommunications and ICT policy and regulatory
issues that are of common interest to the region. It is also a platform for
the industry to bring issues of their concern to the attention of the
regulators.
PRF-18 will focus its work in
line with the new Strategic Plan of the APT for 2018-2020 which serves as
the guideline for APT’s activities from 2018-2020. The forum will address
emerging digital technologies trends in the digital economy and discuss
various issues including policy and regulatory challenges, opportunities,
and innovation topics. In addition, PRF-18 will discuss the preparation for
the Asia-Pacific ICT Ministerial Meeting 2019 and the establishment of the
Correspondence Group.
