Establishment Day of the APT 25 February 2019, Bangkok, Thailand The APT Secretariat celebrated
the Establishment Day of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) on 25 February
2019 at the APT Headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand. Representatives from the
Administration of Thailand as the host country, Affiliate Members in Thailand
and international organizations participated in the celebration. The celebration started with a
religious ceremony. Ms. Areewan Haorangsi, Secretary General of APT gave a
speech about the Establishment Day and the 40th Anniversary Celebration. The APT was founded in 1979 by
the joint initiatives of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission
for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The Constitution of the APT came into force on 25 February 1979 and the APT
was established since then. This year is the first year that
APT celebrates the Establishment Day on 25 February. It also marks the 40th
Anniversary of the APT. There will be various activities throughout the year
to celebrate this auspicious occasion. The highlight of the 40th Anniversary Celebration
is the Asia-Pacific ICT Ministerial Meeting 2019 which will be held from
25-26 June 2019 in Singapore. The celebration concluded with
the cake cutting ceremony and luncheon.
