ASTAP: Expert Group on Future Network and Next Generation Network (EG FN&NGN)

Objectives:

  • Provision of information to members of the Expert Group, and ASTAP generally, on the development of international and regional standards for NGN and FN including the application of machine learning technologies, SDN (Software Defined Networking), Big data, Cloud Computing, Transport networks, NFV (Network Functional Virtualization) , enhancement of NGN and IMT-2020 network and beyond(non-radio-related)(based on the ASTAP goal "To enhancement the level of expertise on standardization among the members and assists with upward and downward dissemination of information on standardization.").
  • Analysis of the implications of NGN and FN including the application of machine learning technologies, SDN, Big data, Cloud Computing, Transport networks, NFV(Network Functional Virtualization), enhancement of NGN and IMT-2020 network and beyond(non-radio-related). And analysis of the impact to our Region and, when appropriate, engage with stakeholders in the development of proposals for submission to the global standardization bodies.
  • Promote harmonization of NGN and FN including the application of machine learning technologies, SDN, Big data, Cloud Computing, Transport networks, NFV(Network Functional Virtualization) , enhancement of NGN and IMT-2020 network and beyond(non-radio-related). And Promotion of standards development in the Region, by sharing of information on national standards work as well as input into international work (based directly on the ASTAP goal “To harmonize standardization activities in the region”).
  • To share information and, if possible, develop guidelines for the implementation of packet-based networks for telephony, IPTV, Smart TV and other services.
  • To share information on “Trust Provisioning for future ICT infrastructure and services”.
  • To consider the APT Study questions. APT study questions identified the issues which APT member countries have faced. It should be studied and find the possible solutions.
     

Output/Deliverables:

  • Circulate appropriate information to APT members in a timely manner
  • Regional opinions/proposals to international groups such as ITU
  • Develop and maintain relationship with international organizations
